The Importance of Respite Care for Parents
How can I find time to go to work, pick up groceries and run errands, and care for my child? When will I get a break to take care of myself? If I get a caregiver, can I trust them to care for my child? If you find yourself asking these questions, we have the answers. We want to assure you that our caregivers are highly qualified to work with children with disabilities, and we aim to form a bond with your child, so that they enjoy their time with our caregivers. We understand that you may be hesitant to entrust others with the role of caring for your child, especially if they have special needs, and we assure you that we aim to meet your child’s needs wholly, while providing them with a companion to make every day enjoyable, entertaining, and even fun!
We also want to remind parents that respite is a responsible way to take a break from caregiving — you don’t have to be a superhero to provide excellent care for your child. Take advantage of respite to give yourself a well-earned break. You can recharge, destress, and even have some fun of your own. You’ll come home refreshed, and ready to be the hero caregiver that you are. We find that respite care helps parents regain that energy that’s essential as a busy parent. Revitalize yourself physically, mentally, and emotionally with our respite care services.
Our Available Services
We understand that every child is different, and their daily needs are unique. Beyond that, as their caretaker, your day to day routine is just as unique. We strive to provide individualized respite care services that cater to your needs, the needs of your child, and your schedule. We provide in-home respite services, routine respite services, and respite programs — please don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you’re curious about any of our services.
If you’d like, we can come to your home to provide your child with care in the space that they’re most comfortable. Our in-home respite services can be scheduled once a day, weekly, or whenever you need, so that you can take a break. During in-home respite care, we’ll watch your child, and we can provide assistance with their daily living needs. We can help with mealtime, medication, dressing, bathing, toilet use, and other necessary activities. It’s always our goal to ensure that your home remains a safe environment for your child.
We can also help with your child’s daily routine. We can provide transport to and from your home, including to school, programs, and other places and events, as necessary.
In addition, we can enjoy social activities, play games, exercise, you name it. We strive to make respite time an enjoyable time for your child, and we aim to form a bond with your child, so that they look forward to time with their caregiver.
Routine Respite Services
Our routine respite services include providing companion care, assistance with daily living needs, assistance with daily tasks and routines, and maintaining a safe environment. Schedule time to have a caregiver provide respite care for your child. Routine respite services can also be paired with other programs, and our caregivers can transport your child to and from school, health care facilities, and other agencies for scheduled activities.
Inland Respite offers various programs for children with special needs. Join us for daily or weekly respite programs with other children. Or sign up for activities and events that we’ve planned. We aim to give children the opportunity to socialize and enjoy unique activities — all the while, they’ll be in good hands with multiple caregivers nearby. Our programs vary from week to week, and location to location, feel free to reach out to us to learn about our current offerings.
Interviewing Your Caregiver
We want you to be comfortable with your caregiver. Meet with our caregiver candidates to make sure they’re a good fit for your child. You can ask your caregiver about their background and training. You can communicate your child’s needs, including their daily living needs. You can also take the opportunity to talk about companion care, and discuss your child’s favorite activities, hobbies, and forms of entertainment. We want to ensure that you and your child connect with your caregiver, and we’ll work with you to identify the right caregiver for your child’s unique needs and your unique circumstances.
Paying for Respite Care
While respite can be expensive, various programs are designed to reduce the cost of care. You may be eligible for any number of programs to reduce the cost of care for your child. You may be eligible for funding through California’s Title V Block Grant — a federal program that’s designed to improve child and parent health. In some cases, the Title V Block Grant provides funding for children with special health care needs, which can be applied to respite care.
Members of the United States military may also qualify for respite care funds through various programs. Feel free to explore Child Care Aware of America or TRICARE, both of which provide health benefits, including respite care, for active-duty U.S. military service members.
Inland Respite also offers Preferred Provider Services. Through this program, you can select a caregiver of your choice, and we’ll provide them with the training necessary to enroll them in our Preferred Provider Program. In this way, we can hire your chosen caregiver, which may make them eligible for pay through vouchers, coupons, and programs which would otherwise pay for caregiver services from a traditional caregiver. You can utilize a close, trusted caregiver to care for your child.
